Bachué
Bachué is a dance and music piece inspired by the Muisca creation myth of the same name. My interest in this particular indigenous tribe comes from their location in the region denominated Altiplano Cundiboyacense in Colombia, where I was born and raised and where most of my family has been living in for generations. During my graduate studies for my MFA-IA, I expanded what it means for me to acknowledge unseen and unnamed influences in my work by looking not only at the content of the materials I am engaging with, but also by shifting my creative process. For Bachué this meant incorporating my study of myth and other ancestral stories by crafting the piece as a storytelling device while making the dance with an overt embrace of the African heritage in my movement.
